Privacy Policy

Who We Are

The Site is operated by Bake with Elizabeth. For any privacy-related question, you can reach us at office@bakewithelizabeth.com, and we will respond personally.

We comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and with applicable United States privacy laws, regardless of where you are located.

Information You Give Us

We only collect this information when you choose to provide it:

  • Comments and recipe ratings β€” when you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address, and comment content you submit, along with your IP address and browser user agent. This helps us detect spam.
  • Contact form β€” your name, email address, and the content of your message.
  • Newsletter signup β€” your email address, and your first name if you provide one.

You are never required to give us any of this to browse the Site or read our recipes.

Information Collected Automatically

Like most websites, we automatically collect some technical information when you visit:

  • IP address and approximate location (country/city level)
  • Browser type and version, operating system, device type
  • Pages visited, time spent on them, and the site you came from
  • Date and time of your visit

This is collected through cookies and similar technologies, described below.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use them in the following categories:

Essential cookies β€” required for the Site to work (for example, remembering your comment details or your cookie preferences). These cannot be switched off.

Analytics cookies β€” we use Google Analytics to understand which recipes people read, how they found the Site, and how we can improve it. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally to us. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Advertising cookies β€” we display ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our Site and/or other sites on the Internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings or at www.aboutads.info/choices.

Social media and remarketing pixels β€” we use the Meta (Facebook/Instagram) pixel and the Pinterest tag to measure the performance of our content and, where permitted, to show relevant content to people who have visited the Site.

You can manage or withdraw your consent at any time through the cookie banner on the Site, and you can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Please note that blocking essential cookies may affect how the Site works.

Affiliate Links

Our recipes and articles contain affiliate links, including links to Amazon. When you click one, the retailer may set a cookie to track that the visit came from us, so that we can be credited if you make a purchase. This does not cost you anything extra. See our Disclosure page for full details.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Publish and manage comments and recipe ratings
  • Reply to messages you send us
  • Send our newsletter, if you subscribed
  • Understand how the Site is used and improve our recipes and content
  • Display and measure advertising
  • Detect and prevent spam, abuse, and security incidents
  • Comply with our legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information.

Legal Bases for Processing (GDPR)

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Consent β€” for the newsletter, and for analytics, advertising, and social media cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interests β€” for publishing comments, preventing spam, ensuring the security of the Site, and understanding aggregate usage.
  • Legal obligation β€” where we must retain or disclose information to comply with the law.

Who We Share Information With

We share information only with service providers who help us run the Site, and only to the extent needed. These currently include:

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.

How Long We Keep Information

  • Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely, so that follow-up comments can be recognized and displayed in context.
  • Contact form messages are kept for as long as needed to handle your request, and generally no longer than two years.
  • Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe.
  • Analytics and advertising data is retained according to the retention settings of the respective provider.
